Your Health Matters — Get Tested for HIV This June!
June 27 is National HIV Testing Day. This is a great time for everyone in our community to get a simple test that can help keep you and your family healthy.
What Is HIV?
HIV is a germ that can make it hard for your body to fight off sickness. A person can have HIV for many years and not feel sick at all. That is why testing is so important — it is the only way to know for sure.
Why Should I Get Tested?
It's quick and easy. The test can be done with a small blood draw or even a quick swab of your mouth. Results can come back the same day.
It's private. Your results are kept between you and your doctor.
It helps you stay healthy. If the test shows you have HIV, there is medicine that works very well. People who take their medicine every day can live long, healthy lives — just like people without HIV.
It protects the people you love. When someone knows they have HIV and takes medicine, they can keep the virus from spreading to others.
It's for everyone. HIV does not care about your age, who you are, or how you live. Doctors say every adult should be tested at least once in their life.
Did You Know?
About 1 in 7 people who have HIV do not know it yet. Getting tested is the first step to staying strong and healthy.
