  • Cavities may not hurt until they are large.

  • Gum disease is usually painless until severe.

  • Tooth wear due to grinding, or the alignment of the teeth, can cause significant damage that is almost impossible to repair.

  • Oral cancers are usually asymptomatic until they are advanced.

Prevention is key!

Identifying problems early allows for more treatment options, shorter, less invasive treatment, and a greater chance for a successful outcome.

A YEARLY COMPREHENSIVE DENTAL EXAM IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED!

This exam takes about 60 minutes and involves a visual exam, x-ray images, cleaning, oral hygiene education and a discussion of findings and possible treatment needs. We will then coordinate follow-up care to be complete at Skokomish or with a specialist.

  • The following dental hygiene supplies are available at the Dental Clinic:

    • Toothbrushes

    • Fluoride Toothpaste

    • Toothpaste for Sensitive Teeth

    • Fluoride Mouthrinse

    • Dry Mouth Rinse

    • Floss and Interproximal Brushes

    • Xylitol Gum

    • Brush your teeth, 2 times a day for 2 minutes, with a fluoride containing toothpaste.

    • Choose foods, and drinks, that are low in added sugar and are not acidic.

    • Clean between your teeth with floss or an interproximal brush once a day.

    • Rinse your mouth with water if you can’t brush.

    • Schedule a comprehensive dental exam at least once a year.
